Some comments from the match report
"Scotland under 16s got their Sky Sports Victory Shield campaign off to the best possible start with a comfortable win over Northern Ireland in Livingston. Ross Mathie’s side put in a convincing and efficient performance in their first game of the 2010 tournament".
Scotland looked lively throughout the early exchanges and caused the Northern Ireland defence problems with Gary Duggan providing the pace down the right wing. His accurate cross was met by the head of Johnstone who couldn’t get his header on target. Duggan was pulling the strings for Scotland up front. His fierce strike from just outside the box was well handled by Thompson.
The best chance of the half came on 33 minutes when Stuart Urquhart rose well to latch on to Duggan’s corner, but Thompson produced an excellent double-save to keep out the header and Jamie Lindsay’s effort from the rebound.
